A bill introduced in the New York State Assembly could put a constitutional amendment on the ballot to add language protecting the right to keep and bear arms to the New York State Constitution. Assembly Bill 3987 was introduced on Feb. 8, 2023 by Asm. William Barclay (R) and 15 Republican cosponsors. If passed, New York voters would consider an amendment to the state constitution prohibiting the infringement on the right to keep and bear arms in the 2024 general election.
Iowa was one of only six states which did not have an RKBA (right to keep and bear arms) amendment in their state constitutions. The other five states are: California, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York. On November 8, 2022 Iowa voters approved a measure to add a right to keep and bear arms to the Iowa Constitution. Amendment sponsor Rep. Steven Holt (R) said, “The right to someone’s own life and the pursuit of their own happiness, their own destiny — life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness — cannot be separated from the right to defend their life, hence the fundamental right to keep and bear arms in our Second Amendment.”
