The Second Amendment must be defended. It’s time to stand against yet another ineffective, delusional and patently unconstitutional encroachment on the rights of ordinary, responsible Americans. Once again after last years failed attempt to pass an assault weapons ban, we have yet another attempt with H.R. 698. This bill is in the first stage of the legislative process. It was introduced into Congress on February 1, 2023. It will typically be considered by committee next before it is possibly sent on to the House or Senate as a whole.
An unconstitutional and irresponsible demand to ban all semi-automatic weapons is totally unreasonable. Semi-automatic weapons which are in common use today and owned by 145 million law abiding Americans – as both pistols and rifles – are not assault weapons. An assault weapon is a military term for a fully automatic weapon which is already banned.
The Supreme Court reaffirmed last year that the Second Amendment protects weapons that are in common use at the time. Semi-automatic pistols and rifles are indisputably in ‘common use’ for self-and home defense today. Another push to pass an already failed assault weapons ban – by banning the most commonly used semi-automatic weapons – will only benefit those who don’t obey any laws. Let your representatives know law abiding Americans will not stand for anymore infringement of the Second Amendment.
